FLORAHOLLAND AND HORTI FAIR INTENSIFY COOPERATION

Aalsmeer, June 2008 – Participants at the FloraHolland Aalsmeer Market can also present their businesses at the Horti Fair in Amsterdam this year, the shuttle services between the two events will be intensified and there will be a special VIP shuttle for retailers. ,,This reinforcement of the commercial and communications support is the result of the more intense alliance between FloraHolland and the Horti Fair'', say directors Timo Huges (FloraHolland) and Wim van der Loo (Horti Fair) at the signing of the cooperation agreement. The Horti Fair is being held in Amsterdam from 14 to 17 October inclusive this year, the FloraHolland Aalsmeer Market on 15, 16 and 17 October.

,,Horti Fair and FloraHolland agree on the strategic importance of the joint national and international positioning of Holland Home of Horticulture. Adopting this as our basic principle and deciding to hold the Aalsmeer Market simultaneously during the week of the Horti Fair, imply a more intensive alliance’’, according to Timo Huges, the managing director of FloraHolland.
All potential participants at the Aalsmeer Market have been approached about the initiative and the response has exceeded expectations, according to the executive director of the Horti Fair. ,,The combined offer of taking part in the Aalsmeer Market and the Showcase at the Horti Fair has proved to be an interesting option’’, is his conclusion.

Photo: Timo Huges, managing director of FloraHolland (left), and Wim van der Loo, executive director of the Horti Fair, seal the intensification of their cooperation with a handshake.

Positioning
FloraHolland and the Horti Fair are starting a special promotional campaign for the shared visitor target group. The existing shuttle service will be intensified during the exhibition days, which partially overlap, and there will be a special shuttle for purchasers from the retail segment. The positioning of the Aalsmeer Market as a commercial fair for flowers and plants and that of the Horti Fair as a horticulture-wide and chain-deep trade exhibition will be further reinforced.
A single joint team from FloraHolland and the Horti Fair is working out the details and will provide support with the logistical organization to those taking part in both events. ,,FloraHolland personnel will staff the Aalsmeer Market Showcase for participants if necessary’’, cites Huges as an example.
The FloraHolland Aalsmeer Market will be held in Aalsmeer from 08.30 to 17.00 hours on Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16 October and until 14.00 hours on Friday 17 October this year. The Horti Fair in the Amsterdam RAI is open from 10.00 to 19.00 hours every day from Tuesday 14 to Friday 17 October inclusive.

the Aalsmeer Market Showcase

The Horti Fair will be enlarged in 2008 to include the Aalsmeer Market Showcase, a new pavilion offering extra exposure to participants at the FloraHolland Aalsmeer Market, the order fair that is also being held in Aalsmeer for part of the opening period of the Horti Fair.

In addition, the shuttle service between the Horti Fair in Amsterdam and the FloraHolland Aalsmeer Market is being intensified. There will be a VIP shuttle for retailers and a single joint team representing FloraHolland and the Horti Fair will be organizing the logistics and service for those taking part in both events.

"This strengthening of the partnership clarifies the positioning of the two trade shows and increases the reciprocal trade visits,’’ according to Wim van der Loo, the executive director of the Horti Fair. "There is no FloraHolland Market on Tuesday 14 October, the first day of the Horti Fair, nor on part of Friday 17 October, the last day, and we are organizing a special programme at the Horti Fair. This will reinforce the exhibition concept and increase the Fair’s attraction.’’

House of Software

The House of Software at the Horti Fair 2008 will prove an interesting destination for all horticulture professionals wanting to complement an overview of all current software packages in one visit, with the newest programs and the technology of the future.

New and existing software programs for all parties in horticulture, from breeder to exporter and from planning programs to climate control, will be presented by eight exhibitors in the Horti Fair House of Software. This new pavilion is a Florecom initiative that bundles the horticulture-wide ICT developments from both new and familiar participants at the Horti Fair. "This means extra service for the visitor on this point as well, besides giving an extra impulse to the transfer of knowledge, which is one of the goals of the Horti Fair,” explains Mia Timmer, general manager of the exhibition that is being held in Amsterdam from 14 to 17 October inclusive.

HORTI FAIR 2008: 14 TO 17 OCTOBER INCLUSIVE IN AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS

Aalsmeer, January 2008 - The International Horti Fair is being held in Amsterdam from 14 to 17 October inclusive in 2008. This trade event concentrates worldwide horticulture at a single exhibition venue for four whole days and with around 1,000 exhibitors from 50 countries it reflects all state-of-the-art developments and future horticulture trends. Hundreds of new products and services, special theme pavilions and the celebrated quality competition will make the Horti Fair 2008 once more the most complete horticulture trade fair in the world and “Growing Sustainably” an exhibition theme for our times.

The Horti Fair attracts almost 50,000 trade visitors every year from more than 100 countries. They come for the wide range of products and services from around 1,000 exhibitors, who provide a complete picture of the latest developments and future trends in professional horticulture, including technique, supply, trade and services. And they are extremely interested in the hundreds of new products and services being introduced during the Horti Fair in Amsterdam.

Enriching experience
Visiting the Horti Fair is an experience that enriches horticultural professionals with knowledge and new contacts. This experience is confirmed by independent research during and after the Horti Fair 2007 - 90% of visitors recommend the Horti Fair to professional colleagues and no less than 94% have found or seen what they were looking for. This underlines the wide and deep range offered by the exhibitors at the Horti Fair; from breeding to sales to retailers, and from floriculture and food crop horticulture to greenhouse construction and fittings, machines, equipment and raw materials.
Exchange of knowledge is one of the cornerstones of the successful exhibition concept of the Horti Fair. Breakfast Briefings are organized ahead of the opening hours of the trade fair, there are special theme pavilions like the House of Genetics, House of Technology, House of Retail and House of Quality, and “Growing Sustainably” is an exhibition theme for our times.

Introduction platform
Year-in and year-out the Horti Fair is the platform for the introduction of hundreds of new products and services. An international jury judges all registered new products, selects the winners in the four segments of production, technique, supply, and trade/services, and decides on the ultimate winner. All new products being introduced can be recognized by the special Horti Fair New logo and can be seen on the extremely popular website at www.hortifair.nl.
The Horti Fair is held in Amsterdam, close to the heart of the Dutch centres of horticulture production, trade and knowledge. Easily accessible, on top of the market and in the middle of the sector – for and by horticulture professionals.

EARLIER HORTI FAIR CONFIRMS ITS TOP POSITION AS HORTICULTURAL SHOWCASE

Amsterdam, 15 October 2007 – This year the International Horti Fair in Amsterdam RAI attracted 46,846 horticultural professionals from 108 countries. The fair’s director Wim van der Loo believes that this has amply confirmed the fair’s sound position. ‘Bringing forward the fair from November to October has worked out very well,’ he says. ‘The Horti Fair is the international showcase for the introduction of new products and services and is making an even greater contribution to the exchange of know-how. Good business was done, particularly in the technology, supply and trade/services categories.’ 985 firms from 51 countries took part in Horti Fair. They noted that the quality of the trade visitors was higher than ever. These trade visitors gave the Horti Fair the high rating of 7.7 out of 10.

Quarter of visitors had buying plans
Factors responsible for the high rating of the 2007 fair by exhibitors (7.7 out of 10) were the clearer segmentation, earlier exhibition period and greater focus on innovations and exchange of know-how. Over 80% of the visitors indicated during the 2007 fair that they would visit the Horti Fair again in 2008. This is evident from the provisional results of the visitor survey. Over a quarter of the visitors came to the Horti Fair with definite plans for purchases and actually requested a quotation or made a specific purchase. Horti Fair 2007 was held from 9 to 12 October.

New pavilions and activities are successful addition
New pavilions and exhibition activities such as the Horti Fair New 2007 Gallery and the Growers’ Market proved to be a valuable addition to the exhibition concept. With the existing Houses of Genetics, Technology, Quality, Retail and Flowers & Plants, these special interest pavilions are an aid to doing business and exchanging horticulture-related knowledge. The pavilions also emphasise the division of the fair into the four categories: production, technology, supply and trade/services. The informative meetings such as the breakfast briefings and walk-in seminars proved to be a real bull’s-eye and attracted even more interest than in 2006. Wim van der Loo, the fair’s director, also notes that in the week of the Horti Fair there was a proliferation of events in the floriculture sector that benefit from the attraction exerted by the fair without contributing to it as participant. ‘Next year we’ll launch additional activities to make Horti Fair even more attractive for the complete horticultural sector,’ he says. ‘Our function is, after all, to serve the entire international horticultural sector as effectively as possible.’ The Horti Fair 2008 will be held in the Amsterdam RAI Exhibition Centre from Tuesday 14 to Friday 17 October.

Koppert Biological Systems’ Enzicur wins Horti Fair Innovation Award
The international trade jury conferred the Horti Fair Innovation Award 2007 on Koppert Biological Systems for its Enzicur product. The award was presented during the official opening of the Horti Fair by Gerda Verburg, Minister of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality. The other category winners were the ‘fully automated chrysanthemum growing process, from cutting to harvested crop’ of Logiqs Agro BV and the ‘Anthurium Black Queen’ of Rijnplant. The ‘FlowerBagVase’ of BIN International BV received an honourable mention. The winners were chosen from almost 400 new products and services registered with the organisers, 19 of which were shortlisted. The winner of the Innovation Award receives not only tremendous publicity and international attention but also a media package worth € 10,000 offered by the organisers International Horti Fair and Reed Business.

Priva wins Best Participant Award
Priva B.V. won the Best Participant Award 2007, a prize presented during the Horti Fair to the firm that made the best use of the Horti Fair as medium. The jury was enthusiastic about Priva’s accessible, attractive presentation at the exhibition and its multimedia approach. The award consists of a cup and a Horti Fair media package worth EUR 1,000.

The Best Participant Award 2007, the prize for the stand of the firm that has made best use of the Horti Fair as medium, was presented yesterday to Priva B.V. (stand no. 04.0212).

The jury, consisting of Mia Timmer (Horti Fair general manager), Helga van Marrewijk (Ment Communication Agency) and Piet Wapperom (communication expert), was enthusiastic about Priva’s presentation and multimedia approach. The jury stated, ‘They are an innovator within the horticultural sector, and this is reflected in their stand.’ The extra stand which Priva had reserved for its new product – the EcoFutura combined fish farming and tomato growing system – also appealed to the jury. Other factors to its liking were the expertise of the stand crew, the highly professional promotional material and the challenging nature of the slogan ‘Hidden opportunities in the greenhouse’.

KOPPERT BIOLOGICAL SYSTEMS’ ENZICUR WINS HORTI FAIR INNOVATION AWARD 2007

Amsterdam, 9 October 2007 The international trade jury has conferred the Horti Fair Innovation Award 2007 on Koppert Biological Systems for its Enzicur product. The award was presented during the official opening of the Horti Fair in Amsterdam RAI by Gerda Verburg, Minister of Agriculture, Nature Management and Food Quality. The new products and services were divided into four categories, which coincide with the layout of the Horti Fair. The other category winners were the ‘fully automated chrysanthemum growing process, from cutting to harvested crop’ of Logiqs Agro BV and the ‘Anthurium Black Queen’ of Rijnplant. The ‘Flower Bag Vase’ of BIN International BV received an honourable mention. The winners were chosen from almost 400 new products and services registered with the organisers, 19 of which were shortlisted. In addition to the enormous publicity and international attention, the winner of the Innovation Award receives a media package worth € 10,000 from the International Horti Fair and Reed Business Information.

Jury report on the winner
The jury had no hesitation in choosing Enzicur, which is a product of Koppert Biological Systems and is a new and patented natural fungicide against mildew with a powerful curative effect. Mildew cannot develop resistance to Enzicur. Enzicur is also safe for humans, the environment, pollinators and most natural enemies, and is consequently ideally suited to integrated crop applications. Jury chairman Gijs Kok says, ‘Enzicur represents a breakthrough in the fight against fungal diseases and may well also have a curative effect for diseases other than those now tested. As an organic agent it is helpful to the image of the horticultural sector. It is also the product of work at a high scientific level over a very long period. As an organic solution, Enzicur in fact represents a real breakthrough and is a good example of corporate social responsibility in practice.’ This is why this winner of the Supply Category was also declared the overall winner of the Horti Fair Innovation Award 2007.

Category winners
Logiqs Agro BV came first in the Technology Category with its ‘fully automated chrysanthemum growing process, from cutting to harvested crop’. Rootless cuttings are pushed into the growing gutters, which pass through the different units fully automatically and are also harvested automatically. The whole system operates in combination with smart ICT control technology. The jury commented, 'This system had an excellent chance of winning with its comprehensive concept, high degree of innovation in the different disciplines combined in the process, and the cooperation between different parties in the production chain.’ Rijnplant’s Anthurium Black Queen won in the Production category. The jury praised the ‘distinctive, trendy black colour’ and considered that ‘this sturdy, black flower has tremendous market potential, particularly as a potted plant’. Bin International B.V. received an honourable mention for its FlowerBagVase in the Trade/Services Category. The jury considered that this flower bag, which doubles as a decorative vase, was 'an example of the continued development of a product: it’s seemingly obvious, but still innovative.’

Broadly constituted, international trade jury
The international jury consists of G. Kok (jury chairman and Commercial Affairs unit manager, FloraHolland), J. van Buren (Pot Plants market group manager, DLV Plant BV), H. Dressler (Gb Das Magazin für Zierpflanzenbau, Germany), P. Fayolle (Lien Horticole, France), C. van de Kaay (vegetable grower), F. Kempkes (technology researcher at Wageningen UR Glastuinbouw, Greenhouse Technology Department), E. Moor (pot plant grower), S. Vale (commercial greenhouse grower, Great Britain) and J. Water (Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality). The broad and international composition of the jury is the best guarantee of a balanced judging of the hundreds of innovations at the Horti Fair 2007.

TECHNOLOGY OF FUTURE HORTICULTURE OPEN TO WIDE DISCUSSION IN HORTI FAIR HOUSE OF TECHNOLOGY

Amsterdam, 1 October 2007 – Discussions of horticultural technology in 2012 on the basis of propositions for debate, presentations by nominees for the Horti Fair Innovation Award and new intelligent energy greenhouse concepts - the House of Technology at the Horti Fair is set to become the beating heart of the technology segment at the Horti Fair. The entire Amsterdam RAI complex is in use for the annual horticulture trade fair, which has been brought forward this year and is being held from Tuesday 9 to Friday 12 October inclusive. 'Focus on water and energy' is the theme of the event and it will also find expression in the House of Technology (stand 05.0208).

The Horti Fair House of Technology is a reflection of current and future development in horticultural technique and is one of the special theme pavilions at the Horti Fair, where the accent lies on the transfer of knowledge. The exhibition theme of 'Focus on water and energy' is the binding element and the activities in the pavilion also give this part of the Horti Fair its own distinctive and dynamic essence.

Intriguing propositions
The many effects of the rapid progress in horticultural techniques are examined at length during the daily discussions on intriguing propositions. Everyone interested is very welcome at 11.00, 13.00, 15.00 and 17.00 hours to listen to the debate, and anyone wishing to register in advance in order to be sure of a place around the table can register via hot@mauricewubben.nl. The discussions will be led by editorial staff from weekly magazine “Groenten & Fruit” and well-known presenter Arne Weverling.
The proposition for discussion on 9 October, the opening day of the Horti Fair, is ''It will be possible in 2012 to control a plant’s light, heat, water, nutrient and CO2 requirements with extreme precision; refined computation models make direct connections between nutrients, cost price and competitiveness.'' Maurice Wubben, the organizer of the House of Technology, says the question is ,,Will it indeed be possible to use sensors to put plants on hold, with a view to price developments for example?’’
''The development of new knowledge and new varieties means that closed cultivation systems will gain the upper hand in time. Closed cultivation will become the standard,'' is the proposition to be discussed on Wednesday 10 October. Jan Mastwijk, a member of the Lower House of the Dutch Parliament, has promised to come to the Horti Fair and to the House of Technology that day.
The focus on Thursday 11 October is on greenhouse horticulture as a supplier of energy and the proposition ,,Dutch greenhouse horticulture will have taken over the function of the power company in many municipalities in 2012’’ has been “adopted” by power network manager Continuon. ,,What position should growers occupy in the interplay of forces between energy suppliers and network managers?’’ is one of the questions that will be examined.
Enormous rises are possible in the profitability of both artificial light and sunlight, and so ,,Advances in light technology will enable greenhouse horticulture to produce even more efficiently in the long run than it already can at present,” is the proposition on Friday 12 October, the last day of the fair.

Renewal
All eight new products in the technology segment of the exhibition that have been shortlisted for the Horti Fair Innovation Award are being presented in the House of Technology. Almost 400 new products have been registered with the show’s organizers for this prestigious honour and a total of 19 of these have been designated potential winners by the international jury of experts. ,,In addition to the eight shortlisted products, even more technological innovations can be seen and assessed in the House of Technology,” says pavilion manager Wubbens. ,,The innovations are so complex sometimes, according to the jury for the Innovation Award, that dialogue and demonstrations are needed to gain a clear impression of the advantages. And what better place to do that than at the Horti Fair, where growers can immediately make comparisons with other new products?’’

Intelligent energy greenhouse concepts
The Horti Fair House of Technology is also where the Wageningen University and Research Centre (WUR) will be showing two intelligent energy greenhouse concepts, viz. the ZoWaKas and the Elkas. The ZoWaKas is one of the winners of the Greenhouse as Energy Source competition [‘Kas als Energiebron'] and is being built as a model greenhouse next year. This concept scores 30% better on energy savings than other recent designs and is suitable for growing vegetables and several floricultural crops. Elkas (the electricity supplying greenhouse) shows how best to convert solar energy into electricity. The Energiek 2020 newsletter is part of the House of Technology stand concept. ,,Exhibitors in this segment of the fair also show in this special pavilion, which is why it is an interesting starting point for Horti Fair visitors as they explore further,’’ explains Wubben.

Opening days and times, route, transport and guaranteed parking
The Horti Fair is open from 10.00 to 19.00 hours every day from Tuesday 9 to Friday 12 October. Visits with a business invitation are free. Pre-registration at www.hortifair.nl offers the advantages of fast-track entry to the exhibition and a personal badge.
Look at www.hortifair.nl, route&hotels for the fastest route and guaranteed parking. If you buy a preferred parking ticket at www.hortifair.com/parking no later than 5 working days before your planned visit, you are assured of a parking space in one of the covered car parks at the Amsterdam RAI for € 20.00 a day! You can also park in one of the satellite car parks for a daily charge of € 13.00. These are signposted on all access roads to the Amsterdam RAI and there are fast shuttles (included in the price) that will then take you to the Horti Fair.
Special Horti Fair shuttles from the FloraHolland locations, the Vlugtenburg car park in
's-Gravenzande (€ 5.00 single journey) or the Aalsmeer Flower Auction (€ 5.00 return) will take you to the Horti Fair in the company of your colleagues! Or take a train from a nearby NS station or along the route, because the Amsterdam RAI is only 300 metres away from the NS Station RAI, which has excellent connections to major stations.

INTERNATIONAL TRADE JURY SHORTLISTS 19 NEW PRODUCTS

Amsterdam, 11 September 2007 – The international trade jury has shortlisted 19 new products for the Horti Fair Innovation Award 2007. Gerda Verburg, the Minister of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality, will present this prestigious prize on the first day of the Horti Fair, which has been brought forward this year and will be held at Amsterdam RAI, the Netherlands, from 9 to 12 October. The winner will receive a media package compiled by the International Horti Fair and Reed Business, the joint organisers of this competition for many years, and can also be certain of attracting extra attention from the worldwide horticultural industry.

As usual, innovative products with a chance of winning the award have been shortlisted by the jury prior to the fair in all exhibition categories, i.e. technology, production, supply and trade/services. The four category winners and the overall winner will be decided by the international trade jury on Tuesday 9 October. This consists of G. Kok (jury chairman and Commercial Affairs unit manager, FloraHolland), J. van Buren (Manager greenhouse horticulture, DLV Plant BV), H. Dressler (Gb Das Magazin für Zierpflanzenbau, Germany), P. Fayolle (Lien Horticole, France), C. van de Kaay (vegetable grower), F. Kempkes (technology researcher at Wageningen UR Glastuinbouw, Greenhouse Technology Department), E. Moor (pot plant grower), S. Vale (Commercial Greenhouse Grower, Great Britain) and J. Water (Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality). The broad, international composition of the jury is the best guarantee of a balanced assessment of the hundreds of innovations at the Horti Fair 2007. A special jury is being constituted for the production category in view of the large number of entries for this category.

Jury findings
According to jury chairman Gijs Kok there is greater emphasis this year on the development and refining of previous innovations. ‘This is logical,’ he says, ‘because more and more high quality technologies are being used in the development, production and handling of horticultural crops. We are therefore seeing the establishment of more and more joint ventures, partly due to the enormous investments that are sometimes necessary. And at the same time there are sometimes very practical and seemingly very obvious innovations.’

The jury has also observed another important trend this year, namely the continuing development of the crop growing concept of the semi-closed greenhouse, which won the Innovation Award in 2003. Examples of companies that have elaborated on this concept are ITB Boxmeer with its ITB Cool System, KUBO Greenhouse Projects with its Ultra Clima, Priva with its Climate Optimizer and Wilk van der Sande with the JSK. As the jury notes, ‘Climate control is becoming an ever more important factor in the new greenhouse concepts. As much of the innovation and improvement of components we see in many areas of these complex control techniques and technologies is based on previous advances, a shortlisting in that exhibition category would be a step too far.’

Technical progress actually on display
The number of shortlisted exhibits (19) is practically the same as in 2006 and 2005, when 18 new products and services were shortlisted. Gijs Kok comments, ‘It seems as though companies are selecting and placing new products and services in the market with ever greater care. And the technical progress is often too complex to explain in words. But all becomes clear when they are seen actually functioning, as at the Horti Fair.’

HORTI FAIR ORGANIZES PREVIEW FOR TRADE PRESS

Amsterdam, 3 September 2007 - The Horti Fair 2007, which is being held three weeks earlier this year, from Tuesday 9 to Friday 12 October inclusive, has ‘Focus on Water and Energy’ as its thought-provoking theme. According to executive director Wim van der Loo, the Horti Fair is not just an exhibition of new products and services, but also a platform for the exchange of knowledge. A number of new products and services have already been presented at the recently held New Products Preview.

With more than 900 exhibitors from more than 50 countries, the Horti Fair in the Amsterdam RAI is the most complete of horticulture trade shows worldwide and its 50,000 trade visitors also mean that this event is annually the international horticulture platform for doing business, strengthening contacts and exploring trends for the future. “The Horti Fair is a reflection of the dynamics of horticulture, where the exchange of knowledge is playing an increasingly prominent role,” according to Van der Loo. The organizers of the fair will be welcoming upwards of 100 new exhibitors this year.
Just like last year, the exhibition is again set out in four main segments, which are production, technology, supply and trade/services and the earlier dates for the Horti Fair have been welcomed by exhibitors. For the trade visitors, many of them growers, the new dates will ensure that the high levels of activity associated with the annual crop rotation (vegetable crops) and All Saints’ Day (floriculture) present fewer problems. In addition, they can gather information in good time for making new investments in 2008.

Special pavilions and walk-in seminars
The exchange of knowledge happens at the exhibition during the breakfast briefings, short walk-in seminars in the House of Retail and House of Genetics pavilions and theme discussions in the Horti Fair House of Technology. The complete range of floricultural products and trendsetting new concepts is concentrated in the House of Retail, exclusively for suppliers to retailers, and there is also an inspiration plaza and 12 short walk-in seminars every day.
‘The story’ behind the final product will be communicated in words and images in the House of Genetics by six technology companies and an interesting programme of walk-in seminars. Sometimes a fictive product is involved that researchers are still dreaming of and marketing executives do not even dare to think about yet. But it is often an existing horticultural product that describes how it has been developed and what future objectives it can help to achieve.
Present and future horticultural techniques are the focus of the House of Technology. This pavilion is an interactive discussion and information platform where experts engage with visitors, where new products from the technology segment of the fair are concentrated, and where the very latest concept ideas for future greenhouse designs are shown. The exhibition theme of ‘Focus on Water and Energy' also runs through this pavilion like an interlinking thread.

Natural fungicide for mildew
Koppert Biological Systems is introducing a new and patented natural fungicide that has a powerful curative effect on mildew. Enzicur includes the natural enzyme lactoperoxidase, the active ingredients potassium iodide and potassium thiocyanate, and a number of additives. A liquid adjuvant supplied with Enzicur ensures that the fungicide is distributed evenly over the leaf and penetrates deeply into the mildew colony. Mildew cannot develop resistance to Enzicur, according to Koppert, since the product targets various metabolic processes and proteins in the fungus. Enzicur is safe for humans, the environment, pollinators and natural enemies, making this fungicide ideally suited to integrated crop applications.

Stomata monitoring
Hoogendoorn automatisering has collaborated with WUR Glastuinbouw to develop an innovative soft sensor to measure the behaviour of stomata. The result provides growers with a unique instrument that gives them direct insight into plant behaviour under different climatic conditions in the greenhouse, including stress situations. The stomata play a crucial role in plant evaporation and CO2 assimilation and are, in fact, the plant's regulatory mechanism to enable it to maintain its balance with its environment. It is possible to achieve optimum growth in semi-closed greenhouses by means of controlling the optimum ratio of PAR light, greenhouse temperature, greenhouse relative humidity and CO2, but it is essential to take stomata behaviour into account in this process. The sensor is currently being tested in pilot projects and should be available towards the end of 2007.

Flower bag as vase
The (waterproof) FlowerBagVase is a revolutionary new product for the floricultural sector, which was further developed into a market-ready product by BIN International after the competition for the Best Idea in the Netherlands. The FlowerBagVase is actually a beautiful flower bag made of guaranteed waterproof cardboard in colours and prints that allow the bag to serve as a decorative vase as well. The FlowerBagVase is simple to unfold and fill with water and a bouquet of flowers, while two convenient chord handles ensure that the full bag-vase can easily be transported in the car or by bicycle. Once it has arrived at its destination, the full FlowerBagVase can be placed directly on the table and the carrying chords cut off if required. The FlowerBagVase will substantially increase the vase life of the flowers.

New cut flowers and pot plants
Florist De Kwakel is presenting a number of new Gerberas and Anthuriums for cut flower and pot plant production. The Anthurium Andreanum Emotion is a new cut anthurium in the expanding superior quality range from this breeder. The Emotion is a soft white anthurium with a pale green haze and beautiful large flowers in the traditional anthurium flower shape.
Pomponi is a new series of double-flowered mini cut gerberas from Florist De Kwakel, which catches the eye with its pompon shaped double flowers. The Gerbera Pomponi ‘Sponge Bob’ is a lovely yellow Pomponi with good production and vase life.
The brand-new Gerbera Landscape series will be presented for the first time with the pot gerberas at the Horti Fair. These pot gerberas are suitable for patio and veranda, and in the garden. The series is colourful and decorative, with plants that flower profusely from spring though until autumn.

Opening times and pre-registration
The International Horti Fair in the Amsterdam RAI is open from 10.00 to 19.00 hours every day from Tuesday 9 to Friday 12 October inclusive. Visitors who register in advance at www.hortifair.nl enjoy many advantages, such as fast track entry to the event, a personal badge and an early foretaste on the website of what the fair has to offer, including all the innovations. In addition, they receive € 3.00 discount on the ticket price of € 18.50, or can even enter free of charge by using one of the business invitations issued by exhibitors.
HORTI FAIR INNOVATION AWARD ENCOURAGES RENEWAL IN HORTICULTURE

Amsterdam, 21 August 2007 – Gerda Verburg, the Dutch Minister of Agriculture, will present the Horti Fair Innovation Award on the first day of the Horti Fair in the Amsterdam RAI, which has been brought forward this year and is now from 9 to 12 October inclusive. This prestigious honour is conferred by an international jury of experts on the best new product being introduced at the trade fair. The winner receives a media package from the International Horti Fair and Reed Business, who have been organizing this competition for many years. The value of the prize is € 10,000, but winners say the international publicity and attention is worth many times this amount. In addition, the Innovation Award encourages renewal in horticulture, including technology, supply and services.

,,Winning the Innovation Award confirms the confidence that market players have in you and increases the interest in your company,’’ according to Hans Valk, managing director of Havatec. Havatec’s Ministar won the Innovation Award in 2006 and Valk’s experience, furthermore, is that “this has been good for the image of the sector - with starters on the labour market, for instance.”
This year prospective winning innovations will again be nominated in all exhibition categories, viz. technology, production, supply and trade/services in advance of the trade fair. These nominations will be announced at the beginning of September and the new product that has won the award at the Horti Fair 2007 will be decided in the final round of judging.

'Tremendous attention'
Merely the nomination for the Innovation Award creates tremendous attention, according to managing director Ruud Vlottes of Leen Huisman BV, the company that ended in first place in the technology category in 2006 for its Diaphragm Screen. ,,Positive comments on all sides and huge interest from the trade press, which is enormous encouragement for the staff as well,'' says Vlottes on looking back. Frank Kempkes, who is from the Greenhouse Horticulture department of the Wageningen University and Research Centre and is one of the members of the international jury, is sure that the horticulture industry can create a better profile for itself with the Innovation Award and its nominees. ,,The prestige of the Innovation Award grows with each passing year.''
During the Horti Fair itself, all registered new products can be recognized by the special Horti Fair New logo, on the stands, beside the stand numbers and on the exhibition floor plans as well. What is more, they can be seen on the website at www.hortifair.nl ahead of the event, so that visitors can form their own advance impression of the newcomers, while Reed Business also issues a special Innovatie Magazine, which is distributed with the trade publications Groenten en Fruit and Vakblad voor de Bloemisterij.

International jury of experts
The candidates who finished in first place in the four categories and the overall winner will be decided by an international jury of experts on Tuesday 9 October. This year’s jury consists of G. Kok (chairman of the jury and unit manager Commerce at FloraHolland), J. van Buren (market group manager Pot Plants at DLV Plant BV), H. Dressler (Gb Das Magazin für Zierpflanzenbau, Germany), P. Fayolle (Lien Horticole, France), C. van de Kaay (vegetable grower), F. Kempkes (technical researcher at Wageningen UR, dept. Greenhouse Technology), E. Moor (pot plant grower), S. Vale (Commercial Greenhouse Grower, Great Britain) and ir. J. Water (Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality). The broadly-based and international membership of the jury is the best guarantee of a well balanced evaluation of the hundreds of innovations at the Horti Fair 2007. A special jury will be appointed for the production segment, in view of the large number of registrations in that segment.

HOUSE OF GENETICS TELLS THE STORY BEHIND THE FINAL PRODUCT

Amsterdam, 21 August 2007 – How are new horticultural crops developed? What ultramodern techniques are used and what is the role of research & development in this process? What are the latest developments in breeding, biotechnology and tissue culture? From 9 to 12 October inclusive, visitors looking for an answer to these questions will be coming to the Horti Fair House of Genetics in the Amsterdam RAI, one of the special interest pavilions at the international trade exhibition, where the theme of 'Focus on water and energy' will be taking shape.

The ‘story' behind the final product will be communicated in words and images in the Horti Fair House of Genetics (stand 08.0630), by six technology companies and an interesting programme of walk-in seminars. ,,Sometimes it is a fictive product that researchers are still dreaming of and marketing executives don’t even dare to think about yet. But it is often an existing horticultural product that describes how it has been developed and what future objectives it will achieve,'' says project manager Ruud Ruiter of the Horti Fair House of Genetics.

Continuation of successful formula
The Horti Fair House of Genetics 2007 is the continuation of the new pavilion successfully introduced in 2006, in which innovations in research & development in international horticulture were shown. According to Ruiter, the activities and presentations in the House of Genetics 2007 take on extra depth through the linkage with the exhibition theme of 'Focus on water and energy'. ,,Breeding, propagation, biotechnology and tissue culture enable a more efficient use of water and energy and the participants in the pavilion provide contemporary and future examples of this in an interactive dialogue with visitors. We have succeeded in bringing together a fantastic mix of high-tech companies in the House of Genetics.''
The 150-m2 special interest pavilion has allocated floor space to Moerheim New Plant, Agriom, Genetwister Technologies, SBW International BV, Plantum NL and TTI Green Genetics.

Seminars and presentations
Besides the pavilion participants, exhibitors at the Horti Fair, like Living Foods and Lentse Potgrond/Slingerland Potgrond, are also arranging short walk-in seminars in the House of Genetics at which to present applications of the latest developments in horticultural technology. ,,With a concrete translation of what is on show elsewhere at the exhibition, or a concretization of the information provided during breakfast briefings before the show. The combination of scientific background and practical applications means that visitors will be able to take a lot of this on board,'' promises project manager Ruiter.
Technological developments are translated into a wide range of floricultural crops, food crops and bio-diesel crops in the House of Genetics. ,,The scope of horticulture is widening all the time and the House of Genetics is a preview of what lies ahead.''

Opening times and registration in advance

HOUSE OF RETAIL: COMPLETE FLORICULTURAL RANGE, INSPIRATION AND CONCEPTS

Amsterdam, 21 August 2007 – The complete range of what floriculture has to offer, trendsetting new concepts, an inspiration plaza and 12 short walk-in seminars every day - the Horti Fair House of Retail is extremely attractive for large-scale retail purchasers. The second edition of this new pavilion, which fills an entire exhibition hall in the Amsterdam RAI, promises to be a successful event for visitors and exhibitors alike. For four whole days from Tuesday 9 to Friday 12 October inclusive, supply and demand in floricultural retail and fresh retail will be concentrated at the international horticulture trade fair that takes up the entire Amsterdam RAI complex.

The breadth and depth of what the Horti Fair House of Retail has to offer makes it the most efficient and inspirational knowledge and purchasing platform for the large-scale marketing of flowers, plants and related floricultural products and services - plus vegetables and fruit as well in 2007. The exhibition concept was successfully introduced in 2006 as part of the Horti Fair and its prolongation in 2007 places even more emphasis on new concepts, inspiration for the future and the transfer of knowledge. The House of Retail takes up the whole of exhibition hall 2 and is located directly opposite the main entrance to the Europa complex in the Amsterdam RAI. Two plazas - Retail Concepts and Retail Inspiration – and the seminar programme enhance the appeal of the offerings from the suppliers specializing in retail channels.
Partners of the House of Retail are FloraHolland, the Aalsmeer Flower Auction, the Flower Council of Holland and the Horti Fair and sponsors the Dutch Flower Group, Flower Plant Partners, CNB Retail+ and Zwapak. Exhibitors use the special plazas to attract additional attention to their retail ranges.

Retail Concepts
Retail Concepts is where more than twenty growers and traders present a range of concepts already on the market right now. The presentation is of an extremely high standard, because the concepts on show have been selected on the basis of extra criteria and are classified under themes like Wellness, Health and Fun. In addition to complete concepts, Retail Concepts also presents product concepts that are grouped into ten themes and have also been evaluated in the light of the selection criteria.

Retail Inspiration
Social awareness and other storylines are used at the Retail Inspiration plaza as positioning options for retailers in various kinds of retail channels, such as service and discount supermarkets, garden centres and home improvement outlets. Positioning is the core business of retailers after all, making sure that the flowers and plants format is in line with the expectations of the consumer using the retail chain. These inspiring concepts are capable of communicating a number of messages in this way, but the basis is always the flower and/or plant as a living product and the focus on the target group, the channel and the social trend is clear, complete and consistent. ,,This is what enables us to offer concrete and primarily inspiring applications,'' promises Saskia Sanders from the Horti Fair House of Retail.

Walk-in seminars
The walk-in seminars make the Horti Fair House of Retail additionally interesting on all days of the exhibition from 9 to 12 October inclusive. This programme is sponsored by ABN AMRO and a total of 12 themes are explored every day, varying from category management and retail trends to promoting quality and increasing profitability. The walk-in seminars last around twenty minutes and visitors armed with their newly acquired knowledge can then move on to the trade fair with an even keener focus on gaining ideas for a better turnover and profit margin.

Flowers, plants, bulbs, trees and ... food
In addition to the leading suppliers from the floricultural segment, growers’ cooperative FresQ has also decided to present its activities. FresQ is the second largest Dutch sales organization for greenhouse vegetables, comprising all kinds of tomatoes, bell peppers, chillies, aubergines and cucumbers. ,,This is a hugely innovative enterprise that organizes marketing for 90 producers and strengthens the profile of the Horti Fair,’’ says Wim van der Loo, the executive director of the trade show.

Very complete
The addition of FresQ in the House of Retail has made the Horti Fair the horticulture-wide platform for all links in the chain. The trade/services segment at the Horti Fair goes on growing every year and the presence of the House of Retail inside this segment is possible through the support of the partners FloraHolland, the Aalsmeer Flower Auction, the Flower Council of Holland and the Horti Fair. All visitors to the House of Retail receive a special Retail Catalogue and there is also a special retail route through the entire 90,000 m2 of the exhibition. This route includes exhibitors who do not focus specifically on retail, but do offer interesting products for this target group of visitors.

Pre-registration, opening times and discount
Visitors who register in advance at www.hortifair.nl enjoy many advantages, such as fast track entry to the event, a personal badge and an early foretaste on the website of what the fair has to offer.
HOUSE OF TECHNOLOGY PRESENTS HORTICULTURAL TECHNIQUE FOR THE FUTURE

Amsterdam, 21 August 2007 – Present and future horticultural techniques are the focus of the House of Technology at the Horti Fair, in the Amsterdam RAI from 9 to 12 October inclusive this year.

Striking assertions for the year 2012, like 'New Randstad Municipality switches to heat from horticulture', 'Floating greenhouse really takes off' and 'Lighting technology achieves extreme growth in production of greenhouse horticulture' will tempt visitors to enter into discussion with the experts. ,,With heavyweights from horticulture, but also from other industrial and technological sectors. The assertions and the points for discussion will be communicated in advance and afterwards in alliance with Reed Business, using both the classical and the ultramodern media,’’ says project manager Maurice Wubben of the Horti Fair House of Technology (stand 05.0208).

Innovations
The House of Technology will focus extra attention on the new technological products nominated by the international jury of experts for the Innovation Award, which will be presented on the first day of the trade fair by Dutch Minister of Agriculture Gerda Verburg. In addition, three new conceptual ideas from the WUR (Wageningen University and Research Centre) will be presented, showing future greenhouse designs with ultramodern energy supplies and production. ,,This is one of the links with the exhibition theme of 'Focus on water and energy', which is a subject of enormous interest to both exhibitors and visitors,” according to Wubben. ,,Horticulture is changing from energy consumer into energy producer. And Dutch greenhouse horticulture can further expand its position as the most efficient user of water worldwide. This requires the application of state-of-the-art technologies and the House of Technology is a frontrunner in this sense.''
Live shoots for TV programmes and films that can be viewed on the internet during and after the Horti Fair will give the House of Technology an extra dynamic quality. ,,The beating heart of the technology segment of the Horti Fair, because the pavilion also functions as an information point providing effective referrals to people who are interested.''

Opening times and up-to-the-minute travel information
The International Horti Fair in the Amsterdam RAI is open from 10.00 to 19.00 hours every day from Tuesday 9 to Friday 12 October inclusive.
INSPIRATIONAL HORTI FAIR 2007 REFLECTS DYNAMICS OF HORTICULTURE

Amsterdam, 21 August 2007 – The Horti Fair 2007 will again be an inspirational trade show for the whole of horticulture, with hundreds of new products and services, special pavilions and the thought-provoking theme of 'Focus on water and energy'. The Horti Fair is being held three weeks earlier this year, from Tuesday 9 to Friday 12 October inclusive and open from 10.00 to 19.00 hours every day. The horticulture trade fair takes up the entire exhibition complex of the Amsterdam RAI. As far as the more than 900 exhibitors and around 50,000 trade visitors are concerned, the annual Horti Fair is the international horticulture platform for doing business, strengthening contacts and finding out about future trends. ,,The Horti Fair reflects the dynamics of horticulture, where the exchange of knowledge is fulfilling an increasingly prominent role,’’ observes executive director Wim van der Loo.

When the Amsterdam RAI opens its doors to the tens of thousands of trade visitors to the Horti Fair at 10.00 hours on Tuesday 9 October, they will recognize the exhibition layout successfully introduced in 2006 with its four main segments, viz. production, technology, supply and trade/services. Special pavilions enhance the appeal of the trade show, there is a new-products route and a theme route, and the free exhibition newspaper with floor plan provides an overview of all the activities. More than 900 exhibitors from more than 50 countries make the Horti Fair the most complete of horticultural trade shows worldwide, while 50,000 trade visitors in four days make it the most intensively attended event for the international horticulture industry.
This year the Horti Fair will welcome upwards of 100 new exhibitors and businesses that have decided to take part in the show again after a period of absence. The segments are developing in line with the market, with growth in horticultural supplies (compost in particular) and trade/services, and a rising number of exhibitors from Asia. The organizers conclude on the basis of current registrations that the Horti Fair is the most complete of horticultural trade shows including supply industries. The ratio of Dutch to international companies is the same 50% balance as in recent years and the ratio is expected to be the same for visitors.

Exhibition theme is 'Focus on water and energy'
The exhibition theme 'Focus on water and energy' is of thought-provoking interest for all businesses in professional horticulture and the associated branches of industry. Wim van der Loo, executive director of the Horti Fair, explains. ,,Water and energy play a role in every link in the horticultural chain. Clean freshwater and fossil fuels are becoming increasingly scarce and this encourages innovations that will also be on show at the Horti Fair. The management of these production factors is becoming more important as well and so, correspondingly, is the exchange of knowledge. This is something else we are demonstrating at the Horti Fair - at the breakfast briefings for example.’’
The stand numbers of exhibitors who are developing the theme will stand out better because of the theme logo and on the exhibition floor plans, where the theme route is set out. ,,But exactly how the exhibitors respond to the theme will be a surprise for us as well,’’ remarks van der Loo.

Increased appeal
The trade fair is using the breakfast briefings, short walk-in seminars in the House of Retail and House of Genetics pavilions, and theme discussions in the Horti Fair House of Technology to further the exchange of knowledge. ,,There is a clear need for this,” claims van der Loo. “And it is also an effective way of strengthening contacts. The power of going to and taking part in trade fairs is personal communication combined with the presentation of products and services. With nine special pavilions and national entries reinforcing the basis of the usually exceptional stands from our exhibitors, the appeal of the Horti Fair 2007 will be even greater,’’ promises the executive manager of the event.

New pavilions
Three of the nine special pavilions at the exhibition are new this year, viz. the Horti Fair Growers’ Market, the International Lounge and the Business Lounge. The Growers' Market is a new pavilion with suppliers of parental material, located in hall 8 of the Amsterdam RAI and the production segment of the Horti Fair. The International Lounge, which is also in hall 8, is the platform for national presentations, demonstrations, receptions and gatherings, while the Horti Fair Business Lounge provides sectoral organizations with a location where they can receive their professional associates.
According to the organizers of the show, these new pavilions illustrate the innovative nature of the sector. All new products being introduced at the exhibition and registered in time compete for the Horti Fair Innovation Award, which will be presented by Ms Gerda Verburg, the Dutch Minister of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality, during the official opening on the first day of the fair.

Registration in advance and discount
Visitors who register in advance at www.hortifair.nl enjoy many advantages, such as fast track entry to the event, a personal badge and an early foretaste on the website of what the fair has to offer. In addition, they receive € 3.00 discount on the ticket price of € 18.50, or can even enter free of charge by using one of the business invitations issued by exhibitors.

'BRINGING FORWARD HORTI FAIR INCREASES APPEAL OF HOUSE OF QUALITY'

Amsterdam, 21 August 2007 – Bringing the Horti Fair forward from 9 to 12 October inclusive increases the appeal of the House of Quality, one of the special components at the trade show in the Amsterdam RAI. That is what Wim Kea expects and he is the chairman of the House of Quality, where the product judging of approximately 1,500 flowers and plants is concentrated in a single exhibition hall. ,,The earlier dates mean that an even wider range can compete for the prizes," explains Kea. The Interpolis Quality Cup is awarded to the most highly rated product entered, with 28 September as the deadline for businesses entering products for the adjudication.

The new House of Quality concept successfully introduced in 2006 will be extended in 2007. Concentration of all entries in a single hall, a new basic set designed by arranger Elize Eveleens, and continuation of the tried and trusted assessment by the judges from the VKC [the Permanent Judging Committee], are the ingredients in the new formula for success. ,,And so we are continuing along the path we have chosen, with an even stronger focus on improving quality. Participants in the House of Quality show the level of quality they are capable of achieving and promote their products, so the House of Quality once more promises to be the inspirational visiting card of the entire floricultural sector,’’ according to Wim Kea.
The chairman of this special Horti Fair pavilion is counting on an even wider and deeper range of flowers and plants, now that the Horti Fair is being held three weeks sooner than normal. ,,This is a better time, especially for a lot of products grown outdoors.’’

b>Deadline for registration is 28 September
The deadline by which participants can register entries for the judging is 28 September at www.hortifair.nl (house of quality) or by using the registration form sent to all those interested. There are 56 different plant groups in total, for which several varieties can naturally be entered. ,,In addition to the top quality of the flowers and plants exhibited and judged, the tremendous diversity is of huge interest as well. For all parties in the floricultural chain, from breeder to retailer and everyone in between’’, says Kea.

Extra prize for highest rating
Prizes are awarded in all plant groups, but the product with the highest rating overall receives the important Interpolis Quality Cup. This trophy will be presented on the second day of the exhibition, which is Wednesday 10 October, by Bernard Koeckhoven from sponsor Interpolis. ,,Interpolis supports the House of Quality in order to endorse the bond with the floricultural sector and the importance of thinking in quality,’’ explains Jan Fonk, Head of the Agricultural Division at Interpolis.
The House of Quality is directly opposite the main entrance to the Horti Fair beside hall 1 (Europahal) and is immediately adjacent to the main segments for production and trade at the Netherlands’ most intensively attended horticulture fair.

Opening days and times
The International Horti Fair in the Amsterdam RAI is open from 10.00 to 19.00 hours every day from Tuesday 9 to Friday 12 October inclusive. Visitors who register in advance at www.hortifair.nl enjoy the advantages of fast track entry to the event, a personal badge and an early foretaste on the website of what the fair has to offer.
MINISTER GERDA VERBURG TO OPEN INTERNATIONAL HORTI FAIR 2007

Aalsmeer 17 July 2007 - The International Horti Fair, being held in the Amsterdam RAI from Tuesday 9 to Friday 12 October inclusive this year, is to be opened by minister Gerda Verburg of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality. The minister will also be presenting the prestigious Horti Fair Innovation Award on the first day of the event. ,,We regard the opening of the trade fair by the minister as recognition of the international economic and social position of Dutch horticulture,’’ says Marius Varekamp, chairman of the Horti Fair. The Horti Fair attracted visits from 50,000 horticulture professionals in recent years.

The Horti Fair is being held three weeks sooner than in the past this year and the interest from exhibitors in the Netherlands and elsewhere makes it clear that these earlier dates have gone down well. ,,The Horti Fair is an up-to-date reflection of horticulture, with the hundreds of innovations present also revealing an impression of future developments in the sector,’’ according to Varekamp.

Innovation Award
More than 400 new products and services are introduced at the Horti Fair every year. All new products registered in time with the organizers of the event are eligible to compete for the Horti Fair Innovation Award, which is a joint initiative with Reed Business. At the beginning of September an international jury will announce which innovations have been nominated for the prestigious Innovation Award, and the new products that have ended as first in the four categories of production, technology, supplies and trade/services will be announced on the first day of the exhibition. The overall winner will be announced during the official opening and will receive the Award personally from minister Verburg. Innovations can be recognized at the exhibition by the special Horti Fair New logo and they are all on display at the website at www.hortifair.nl.

Opening days and times
The International Horti Fair is being held in the Amsterdam RAI from Tuesday 9 to Friday 12 October inclusive in 2007, from 10.00 to 19.00 hours on all days. Attended by 50,000 visitors from more than 100 countries (almost 25,000 of them from the Netherlands), the exhibition is the most intensively visited trade event for professional horticulture. And the range of products from exhibitors from fifty countries also makes the Horti Fair the most complete of horticultural trade fairs worldwide.

HORTI FAIR INTRODUCES GROWERS' MARKET

Aalsmeer, 16 July 2007 – This year the Horti Fair is introducing a new pavilion for plant suppliers, called the Growers’ Market. The target visitor group for the Market consists of growers of floricultural crops, with the accent on house plants and garden plants. ,,The new pavilion brings together the range of parental material at the most complete of horticultural trade fairs. It’s very practical for visitors from the Netherlands and all over the world,’’ according to Mia Timmer from the Horti Fair. This year’s exhibition is being held in the Amsterdam RAI from Tuesday 9 to Friday 12 October inclusive.

The concept of the Growers' Market is based on the results of a survey among visitors to previous editions of the Horti Fair and discussions with exhibitors and potential exhibitors. ,,There is a need to bundle together products and services, which we have already been responding to with special pavilions,’’ says Timmer, referring to the Horti Fair House of Genetics, House of Technology, House of Quality, etc.
Registrations for the Growers' Market at the Horti Fair close on 1 August and the number of 9, 15 or 16.6-m2 units is limited. Modified dimensions or combinations can be discussed.

Concentration of range
The product range is concentrated in the Horti Fair Growers' Market and presented in a well-conceived layout. The beautifully yet practically designed pavilion will be located at a central site in hall 8 (the Parkhal) of the Amsterdam RAI, in the production segment at the Horti Fair, and the emphasis will be on exhibiting parental material. Timmer again, ,,Exhibitors will show more, of course, and will naturally benefit from all the opportunities offered by the Horti Fair, such as extra promotion on the website, taking part in the competition for the Horti Fair Innovation Award, mentions in catalogues and trade publications, references to Open Days at the nurseries, and receptions – to name but a few! The Growers' Market is also an interesting option for businesses that do not have a stand of their own every year.’’

Effective participation
It is easy to take part in the Horti Fair Growers' Market. The Horti Fair organizes the construction of the pavilion with all the basic facilities and a dedicated promotion campaign for visitors, in addition to a central reception area with simple catering and professional hostesses to provide information, so that exhibitors only need to supply plant material and documentation. ,,And an enthusiastic team, of course” says Mia Timmer. ,,The huge asset of trade fairs is the combination of the complete product range with the power of personal contact.’’

The International Horti Fair is being held in the Amsterdam RAI from Tuesday 9 to Friday 12 October inclusive in 2007, from 10.00 to 19.00 hours on all days.
'FOCUS ON WATER AND ENERGY' THEME OF INTERNATIONAL HORTI FAIR 2007

Aalsmeer, 8 May 2007 - 'Focus on water and energy' is the theme of the International Horti Fair. The exhibition is being held from Tuesday 9 to Friday 12 October this year in the Amsterdam RAI and the registrations make it clear that exhibitors have responded positively to these earlier dates. The new segmentation of the fair introduced in 2006 is to be refined and this year’s opening times from 10.00 to 19.00 hours every day are in accordance with the wishes of a vast majority of visitors and participants. The Horti Fair attracted 50,000 professionals in recent years, making it the most intensively visited horticultural exhibition in the Netherlands.

The choice of 'Focus on water and energy' as the theme of the Fair is the organizers’ response to current developments in national and international horticulture. ,,Water and energy are essential to the production of horticultural products. The emphasis used to be on increasing production, improving quality and savings on costs. Now that these production factors are becoming scarcer, social and political interest is growing. Scarcity gives impetus to innovation and innovations can also contribute to safeguarding the social and economic position of horticulture,’’ is how Wim van der Loo, the executive director of the Horti Fair, explains the choice of theme.

Developing the theme
The 'Focus on water and energy' theme of the Horti Fair 2007 is developed in various ways. It is one of the subjects during the Horti Fair Interpolis Symposium, which is being held in Noordwijk two weeks in advance of the exhibition. Subjects related to the theme are on the agenda of the Breakfast Briefings organized ahead of the opening times on all the days of the exhibition, and visitors to the Breakfast Briefings subsequently have the opportunity of using information provided at the Breakfast Briefings to deepen their knowledge at the Horti Fair itself, perhaps during a VIP tour. Exhibitors/participants who emphasize the theme on their stand are identified on floorplans and are incorporated into the theme route. The way in which they give shape to 'Focus on water and energy' is carried over into the selection of the 'Best Participant Award Horti Fair 2007', a prize that has been established on the request of the exhibitors.

Earlier dates well received
The bringing forward of the Horti Fair from 9 to 12 October inclusive has been greeted with enthusiasm by a large majority. This is demonstrated by the registrations, which are well on schedule, but also by an additional survey among exhibitors. The objective of this survey was to establish the degree of awareness of the earlier dates of the Horti Fair, which proved to be known to practically all the exhibitors from 2006. Two-thirds of the exhibitors who expressed an opinion are in agreement with the earlier dates, because they are more convenient for crop rotations in greenhouse horticulture and the November feast days for floriculture.
Opinions are evenly divided on bringing forward the exhibition with a view to preparing investment decisions. More than one-third has no opinion, almost one-third agrees and another almost one-third does not agree. ,,An understandable result, because businesses are permanently occupied with decisions of this kind,’ according to Wim van der Loo, the executive director of the Horti Fair. ,,There is no ideal period for a horticulture-wide event like the Horti Fair, but there is an optimum time and that’s what we set out to find. Registrations to date and the additional survey have confirmed our conviction that our decision to hold the exhibition three weeks earlier was the best one for international horticulture.’’

Rise in quality
The opening times of the Horti Fair have been extended and are now from 10.00 to 19.00 hours every day, a decision taken on the basis of the annual evaluation of the event among visitors and exhibitors. This survey also showed, among other things, that the average duration of a visit rose to 5.6 hours in 2006 and that visitors gave the Horti Fair the relatively high grade of 7.5 out of 10. The quality of the professional visitors rose in 2006, because the Horti Fair was held from Tuesday to Friday inclusive that year, instead of from Wednesday to Saturday inclusive. In previous years, the proportion of managerial visitors fluctuated between 60% en 65%, but in 2006 74% stated that they had a managerial position. ,,This means that the Horti Fair is in line with the professionalization of horticulture and the related sectors,’’ concludes Van der Loo.
The segmentation also introduced in 2006 is to be further refined. This exhibition layout follows the logic of the horticultural cluster, with its classification into the four main segments of production, supplies, technology and trade/services.

Opening days and times
The 2007 International Horti Fair is being held in the Amsterdam RAI from 10.00 to 19.00 hours every day from Tuesday 9 to Friday 12 October inclusive. Fifty thousand visitors from upwards of one hundred countries, more than half of whom are international, make this the leading worldwide trade show for professional horticulture. Furthermore, the range of exhibitors from fifty countries means that the Horti Fair is the most complete worldwide horticulture exhibition.

REGISTRATIONS ON SCHEDULE

Registrations for the International Horti Fair 2007 are on schedule.

The exhibition is being held three weeks sooner this year, from 9 to 12 October inclusive, and this is the reason why the closing date for registration for the Horti Fair has been brought forward to 16 April 2007. It is still too early to draw conclusions about the precise structure of the group of exhibitors, but the new website at www.hortifair.nl already shows which companies have registered for which segments of the trade show and it is clear that the Horti Fair 2007 is once more promising to be an event of defining quality.

EXHIBITION THEME: FOCUS ON WATER AND ENERGY

'Focus on water and energy'

This theme is very much on the minds of people in international horticulture, many exhibitors are working with it directly or indirectly, and it holds additional interest for visitors. The theme will be explored at the Breakfast Briefings in advance of the opening times of the Horti Fair and in the special pavilions like the House of Genetics and the House of Technology. Exhibitors can also respond to the theme and increase the attraction of their stands as a result.

BREAKFAST BRIEFINGS EXTENDED

Breakfast Briefings will be organized on all days of the event in 2007, before the Horti Fair opens its doors to the trade public at 10.00 hours.

The extension is a good thing, because the interest in Breakfast Briefings is growing among exhibitors and visitors. Exhibitors can use the exhibitors’ handbook to register if they also want to organize Breakfast Briefings and it is possible that the Breakfast Briefings organized by the Horti Fair in alliance with Syntens may be extended by VIP tours of the exhibition itself.
